On the Result of the Elections to the North Eastern States including Tripura
The election results from the northeastern states including Tripura have brought mixed results. The BJP led coalitions could retain Tripura with a narrow margin and could bag Nagaland. In Meghalaya the NPP emerged as the single largest party.
In Tripura, though could not emerge victorious, the Left-Congress alliance could put up a fight against the fascist RSS-BJP forces to a great extent and could considerably reduce their majority this time. The electoral alliance brought about an organic move against communal fascism in larger outset. It should be pursued with determination to attain goal. The alliance should have addressed the rightful demands of the tribes including that for self determination and should have reached out to them to broaden the electoral alliance so that the fascists could have been ousted from office right away this time itself. Such unity with the tribal people does not stand limited to the said tactical end. It had been ingrained in the characteristic of the left formation in the state for decades stretching to the days of freedom struggle.
So, the alliance has its explicit merits and should be broadened and sustained in consecutive positive action.
Both in Nagaland and Meghalaya the unity of anti-fascist forces in electoral alliance did not manifest. This has to be rectified and United fight should be put up and intensified against communal fascists on parliamentary and extra-parliamentary fronts.
