CPI [ML] Red Flag organised the Remembrance
of the valiant martyrs of the Great Naval Uprising of 1946, on the 70th Anniversary Day , at the Memorial near Bucklay Court , at Colaba , Mumbai  on 21st Feb. 2016 .
The Great Naval Uprising of 1946 was waged by the valiant navy men of the Royal Indian Navy on 18th Feb. 1946 in Mumbai, pulling down the British Union Jack and hoisting national flags including Red Banner with Hammer and Sickle, on the masts of more than 60 war ships at Mumbai port and in the sea.
Under the strike committee's guidance, the strike spread to the whole navy from Karachi to Kolkata . Communist Party and workers of Mumbai supported the strike. The Air force garrison joined the strike. Thousands of  Navy men and the workers raised slogans : 'Inquilab Zindabad, Down with British Imperialism, Hindus and Moslems unite'. The workers struck work and put up barricades in the streets.  People of Mumbai organized food for the striking navy men and faced armed police and British Army.
Though this " last war" for freedom , was brutally suppressed by 23rd February 1946 by British soldiers who gunned down hundreds of navy men and mill workers, this heroic strike hastened the exit of British rule from India.
Though the ruling classes and their political chieftains such as BJP and Congress don't want to remember these valiant soldiers,  their great martyrdom inspires us to defend values of freedom , sovereignty, democracy , secularism , and socialism that made our nation possible.

CPI[ML] Red Flag , Maharashtra state secretary comrade Chandrasekhar  and state committee member comrade Adesh Bansode led the ceremony of the 70th Remembrance anniversary of  the Great Naval Uprising .
