FIGHT AGAINST THE MOVE TO SABOTAGE THE DEMOCRATIC RIGHT OF RESERVATION FOR
SOCIAL JUSTICE
Modi government's move to enact upper caste reservation
bill on the basis of economic criteria in the name of provision for the poor
sections of the upper castes is a blatant move to sabotage the very basis of
the reservation policy. It cannot be counted only as electoral ploy to
attract upper caste votes. It is the strategic position of the Sangh Parivar.
It is notable that even at present dalits converted to
minority religions such as Christianity are not at all getting any reservation
as other dalits do.
Reservation policy was envisaged and enacted as law for
realising the necessary democratic right of the people who were oppressed
for centuries due to the repressive social institution of caste system.
So, lame excuses such as the provisions of the bill
advocates the said economic reservation extraneous to the hitherto implemented
reservation quota for the STs, SCs, BCs, OBCs and OECs all the more exposes the
reality that it bypasses the original law and that it counterposes poverty
against social justice.
Communist and left forces' view that reservation is
democratic right as part and parcel of the course of emancipation of the
oppressed by way of agrarian revolution which is the axis of the total
programme of revolutionary social change exists as well established and long
upheld position from the days of undivided communist party itself.
If that is changed it amounts to abandoning cardinal
principle of class struggle perspective of revolutionary social change and to
tailing behind ruling class parties such as BJP and Congress.
We strongly condemn this nefarious move by the Modi
regime and call upon the left and democratic forces to unitedly fight and
defeat it.
